Pediatric Dental Care

Pediatric Dental Care

Pediatric dental care is all about preventing and treating kids’ dental issues and helping them develop healthy habits that will keep their teeth and smiles in good shape throughout their lives. Dr. Bee and Dr. Melba both love working with children to address their dental needs in a gentle, non-threatening environment. We offer laughing gas (Nitrous Oxide) as a method to relax a child, and our rooms feature televisions to help the child feel comfortable receiving dental care while enjoying a show!

Pediatric Dental Treatments and Procedures

Dental sealants

Dental sealants are thin, protective coatings that are applied to the chewing surface of the teeth. Sealants are typically recommended for pediatric patients to prevent cavities.

Some dental insurance providers will offer coverage for dental sealants.

Pulpotomy (toothache)

A pulpectomy is a minimally invasive procedure during which the dentist removes the tooth pulp. The pulp is the innermost layer of the tooth and contains nerves and blood vessels. When decay or trauma causes bacteria to reach the pulp, this can cause infections that can spread to the tooth’s root.

Stainless Steel Crowns

Stainless steel crowns are commonly used in pediatric dentistry to restore severely decayed or damaged primary (baby) teeth. These crowns are prefabricated and highly durable, making them an ideal choice for children who may not cooperate well during dental procedures or for teeth that require immediate protection from further decay.

Space maintainers

If your child’s teeth fall out prematurely, the dentist will recommend a space maintainer to prevent the neighboring teeth from shifting into the empty spaces left behind by the lost baby teeth and ensure the permanent teeth have enough space to develop properly. These appliances are made of metal or plastic and fit securely over your child’s teeth.

Tooth extractions

Tooth extractions may be necessary if:

  • a permanent tooth is impacted (buried) by other teeth
  • a primary tooth is blocking the eruption of a permanent tooth
  • a primary tooth is causing discomfort or pain
  • an infection is present
  • the teeth are developing incorrectly (e.g., extra teeth)
